SPSS Statistics Doesn't Run on Sonoma (macOS 14.0) - Fix Available

Issue

Apple released macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) on September 26th, 2023. The SPSS Statistics Development team is actively testing this release of macOS with our IBM SPSS Statistics products. Adding macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) as one of our supported platforms is a high priority

Solution

Interim Fixes were developed for SPSS Statistics versions 27.0.1.0, 28.0.1.1 and 29.0.1.1 and are available to customers who need the fix prior to the next release.

Interim Fixes may be applied to any installation within a version:
27.0.1.0-IM-S27STATC-MAC-IF028 addresses Statistics 27.0.0.0 and 27.0.1.0.
28.0.1.1-IM-S28STATC-MAC-IF008 addresses Statistics 28.0.0.0, 28.0.1.0 and 28.0.1.1.
29.0.1.1-IM-S29STATC-MAC-IF001 addresses Statistics 29.0.0.0, 29.0.1.0 and 29.0.1.1.

  1. Download and extract the Interim Fix for your version of SPSS
  2. Close all instances of Statistics 27 Desktop
  3. Navigate to the ../lib subdirectory in the Statistics 27 Desktop installation path. (e.g. "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics 27/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/lib/")
  4. Locate the following file and back it up to a separate folder, such as your Desktop: "libplatdep.dylib"
  5. Copy the following interim fix files to the 27 installation folder located in step 3. "libplatdep.dylib"
  6. Make sure the installed files have correct permissions (e.g. chmod 755)
