WiFi Troubleshooting : Forget and Reconnect

Overview

This guide provides troubleshooting steps to refresh a saved WiFi connection by forgetting and reconnecting to the network on Android, iPhone/iPad, Windows and MacOS devices.

Important — after changing your password: If you have changed your EMU password, any device with the campus WiFi network saved will keep trying to authenticate using your old password. Repeated failed attempts can trigger an Active Directory account lockout, which affects not WiFi and network share mappings. To prevent this, forget the saved WiFi network on every device you use (phone, laptop, tablet) as soon as you change your password, then reconnect using your new password.

Refreshing the saved connections can help alleviate intermittent connections to wireless and network drives.

Windows

Remove the Saved WiFi Connection

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Network & Internet.
3. Select WiFi.
4. Click Manage Known Networks.
5. Select the campus WiFi network.
6. Click Forget.
7. Enter your Netid in the Username field.

Reconnect to the Network

1. Click the WiFi icon on the bottom-right taskbar.
2. Select EMU-Wireless-Secure.
3. Click Connect.
4. Enter your Netid in the Username field.
5. Enter your Emich password in the Password field. If you recently changed your password, be sure to enter the new one.
6. Click OK.

Mac OS Devices

Remove the Saved WiFi Connection

1. Open System Settings.
2. Select WiFi.
3. Click Details next to the Network.
4. Select Forget This Network.

Reconnect to the Network

1. Click on the WiFi icon in the upper right corner of the menu bar of your screen.
2. Select EMU-Wireless-Secure
3. Enter your NetID in the Username field. 
4. Enter your Emich password in the Password field. If you recently changed your password, be sure to enter the new one.
5. Select Join.
6. When certificate page appears, click Continue

Android Devices

Remove the Saved WiFi Connection

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Network & Internet or Connections.
3. Select WiFi.
4. Tap the connected/saved campus WiFi network.
5. Select Forget Network.

Reconnect to the Network

1. Refresh Wi-Fi setting page.
2. Select EMU-Wireless-Secure
3. Enter your NetID in the Username field. 
4. Enter your Emich password in the Password field. If you recently changed your password, be sure to enter the new one.
5. Tap Connect.
6. If prompted for a domain, enter "emich.edu".
7. Accept any security certificates if they appear.

iPhone/iPad

Remove the Saved WiFi Connection

1. Open Settings.
2. Select WiFi.
3. Select the (i) icon beside the campus WiFi network.
4. Select Forget This Network.
5. Confirm by selecting Forget.

Reconnect to the Network

1. Refresh Wi-Fi setting page.
2. Select the EMU-Wireless-Secure
3. Enter your NetID in the Username field. 
4. Enter your Emich password in the Password field. If you recently changed your password, be sure to enter the new one.
5. Tap Join.
6. If certificate page appears, click accept and continue.
